More VB-MAPP materials! (Level 2 - Tact)

Tonight I decided to check my email for this blog and I had a lot of emails with requests for more materials (specifically VB-MAPP data sheets). I was really touched knowing there are people out there reading this blog... and I was also completely guilt stricken for taking a 5 month hiatus from sharing with you all!

Last night and today I spent about 7 hours in total making picture cards and a data sheet that can be used to test the Level 2-7 TACT objective on the VB-MAPP. I am pretty proud of this document because I sized each item to perfection and I am usually rather awful at anything computer related!

The materials provided are for the objective that is testing the ability to tact 50 items, across 3 examples each. I thought of 50 items that are common for preschoolers, broke them into categories, and looked for 3 different pictures for each item. There are 150 pictures total. The document is almost 40 pages long so get ready to dominate the printer!

Download the picture cards HERE!!!

Download the data sheet HERE!!!

I hope you all enjoy! Please send more emails so that I stay connected and accountable!

EDIT: updated on Jan. 27, 2014: I have a new data sheet posted that is much better than the one included in this post. check it out here

  1. This is so helpful. I'm printing it out on Monday to use in an assessment right away.

Now if I just had a materials list for everything needed to test each level...

    1. I am so glad this helps you! My coworkers and I have been putting together lists of materials and trying to make a complete VB-MAPP kit. It is time consuming but we are hoping to be finished in a few months. Once we are done, I plan on posting the info here. Good luck with your testing!

    1. You are welcome! Make sure you see my updated data sheet for this - it is much easier to take data on than the one I loaded onto this post! http://teachearlyautism.blogspot.com/2014/01/updated-data-sheet-for-vb-mapp-tact-and.html

Tact is the label - the expressive part. For example when you show them a picture and you ask, "What's this?" and they respond with the answer.

Listener Responding is the receptive part. They don't have to say anything, just demonstrate that they understand what you are asking. For example, when you have several pictures on the table in front of them and you say "touch the car" - they need to touch the correct picture.

I hope that helps! Also, there is a section on the VB-MAPP where when you test listener responding, they want to see if the student will also verbally identify the item. For example, if you say "Where is the spoon?", when the child goes to touch the picture of the spoon, do they also say the word "spoon".

    2. Thanks so much for the clarification.
I also was confused btwn tact and listener responding!

Also, I'm blown away with how much material you've created and by your generosity of sharing it all!
      Thank you so so much!

  5. Thank you for sharing! sooooooo helpful! When you say label each picture with a 1,2 or 3 do you mean label each picture on each page? So every page would have 1-4 on the back?

    1. You're welcome! I store my cards as "Set 1", "Set 2", and "Set 3". For example, each different photo of "banana" goes into each stack and I write #1, #2, and #3 on the corresponding picture to the set. This makes life easy when cards get mixed up (there are 150 cards - no one has time to go through and figure out how to sort them!). If the card has a #2 on the back, it goes in the "Set 2" stack! Also helps you know exactly which picture the student is able to identify (e.g. maybe they are only identifying pictures of real items and not cartoons). Hope that makes sense!

  9. Thank you for helping us all out. After you finish the assessment, how do actually begin the VB program? Do you need the vbatt?

    1. I look at where the gaps are in their assessment and I start building programs to fill them in. If you have the guide book for the VBMAPP, it does a wonderful job of explaining how to start programming based on assessment results. I also highly recommend using Teaching Language To Children with Autism or Other Developmental Disabilities by Mark Sundberg and James Partington. It is an EXCELLENT resource.

  10. I just found your blog. Thank you for creating these materials. I am relatively new to the VBMAPP but think it is a great tool. I had started to create materials for this but your post is a HUGE help. I just completed Mary Barbera's course intermediate course on Verbal Behavior. My only question is that I am not exactly sure how to go about teaching some of these areas. Is there a document that goes over this somewhere?

    1. Hi Stephanie - I am so happy these materials are helping you! Do you have a licensed BCBA that you can consult with at your school or center? It would be best to have them work with you to look at your students and develop the most appropriate program. If you read my above comment as well, I highly recommend using the guide book that VBMAPP has because it explains how to start teaching the areas. I also use Teaching Language To Children with Autism or Other Developmental Disabilities by Mark Sundberg and James Partington. It is an EXCELLENT resource and a must have for anyone working with kids with autism. Good luck!

  17. I was able to overcome senile dementia via a complete naturopathic process.

About two years ago, when I was 56, I started feeling foggy and had occasional memory lapses. My wife, Mary, started to notice it, too, but I also have hearing issues so she thought that was the problem. My memory worsened very gradually over the years, and we lived with it, compensating as needed. I became less social. After some months thereafter, it got to the point where we couldn’t keep making excuses or ignoring it. I had gone from doing our grocery shopping without a list to going with a list, to having the list but not buying what was on it.

Mary went online to do some research, and it was during this process we had been fortunate enough to come across Dr. Utu Herbal Cure: an African herbalist and witch doctor whose professional works had majored on the eradication of certain viral conditions, especially dementia, ( improving the memory capacity positively), via a traditional, naturopathic process and distinguished diet plan. It was by the administration of this herbal specialist that I had been able to improve my condition for better. So to say, the encounter with the above-mentioned herbal practitioner was the first time we ever heard there was something that possibly can be done to improve my memory functionality.

By the existence of such an encounter, I was able to learn of the new approach by which this herbalist successfully treated dementia conditions, which included a distinguished herbal therapy and lifestyle changes of which I had undergone to a tremendous, positive effect.
It was after the completion of the herbal therapy I had started to experience a great deal of cognitive improvement when it came to rational decision making.

In brief, I was able to go through the dreadful hollows of senile dementia without any further hazardous damage to my health condition, and within a short period. Had it not been for the support of my wife, of whom had encouraged me to undergo the above-mentioned therapy and that of the herbal practitioner of whom now happens to be benefactor - I would have been long exposed to the further perils of this condition and of which had been apt to result to a calamitous end.

I would also wish for the same positiveness upon patients who may happen to be suffering from this debilitating disease, and would warmly beseech them to find a confidant like this herbal specialist with whose professional service I was able to attain a divine recovery.

For further information concerning this African traditional prescription for Alzheimer's disease; feel free to contact Dr. Utu directly via email: drutuherbalcure@gmail.com
